Black Holes By Jean Simon Laplace - 1669 Words
Black holes, complex and difficult to understand, have intrigued both scientists and physicists alike since the eighteenth century. French scientist Pierre-Simon Laplace, born in 1749, was one of the first scientists to argue for the existence of an unexplainable body that encompasses an endless amount of space . Following Laplace, John Archibald Wheeler, an American physicist born in 1911, coined the term ââ¬Å"black holeâ⬠for a space entity that is ââ¬Å"so compact (in other words, has enough mass in a small enough volume) that its gravitational force is strong enough to prevent lightâ⬠and all other matter from fleeing its body (What Is a Black Hole?). Black holes, therefore, are masses that have a gravitational force so great that they attractâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦As previously stated, black holes are immense sources of gravity, consisting of a region of ââ¬Å"infinitely small volumeâ⬠(How Big Is a Black Hole?). This region is known as the central sin gularity of a black hole. Surrounding the central singularity is the event horizon, ââ¬Å"an imaginary sphereâ⬠that indicates the point at which a stationary black holeââ¬â¢s gravitational pull will begin to draw material into its central singularity. For example, the Schwarzschild radius, the distance between the event horizon and central singularity, of Earth is approximately the ââ¬Å"size of a marble,â⬠meaning that the Earth would have to be the size of a marble in order to reach its event horizon, thus becoming a black hole. On the other hand, black holes are not always immobile bodies; they also spin around their own axis. Therefore the central singularity of rotating black holes are not a point but instead a ââ¬Å"thin ring.â⬠Furthermore, the event horizon will consist of two spheres instead of one. The area between both event horizons is known as the ââ¬Å"ergosphereâ⬠. Motionless Black Hole Structure2 Spinning Black Hole Structure2 Despite the fact that black holes are be either stationary or in motion, all black holes are categorized into two groups, stellar-mass and supermassive. Stellar-mass black holes are approximately ââ¬Å"a few times heavier

Computer Information System Brief Free Essays
Kudler Fine Foods is a specialty food store located in the metropolitan area of San Diego California. Kathy Kudler founded the operation and by organizing a business plan and finance needs she was able to open the first store. Within the first six months, the store broke even and ended the year with a profit. We will write a custom essay sample on Computer Information System Brief or any similar topic only for you Order Now Two more stores have opened since, and the company continues to remain bring in a profit. Kudler Fine Foods is looking to further expand the business and has asked Regal CPAââ¬â¢s to evaluate the companyââ¬â¢s accounting operations. After evaluation of the systems and policies Regal CPAââ¬â¢s will advise Kudlerââ¬â¢s on how to integrate the computer systems to meet business needs. Key Business and Accounting Information Needs Kudlerââ¬â¢s initial business plan included funds in excess of $50,000 to install a Retail Enterprise Management System. Kathy Kudler contracted Smith Consulting to help analyze the business needs and select an appropriate REMS. Smith Consulting has been contracted yearly to maintain the system for Kudler Fine Foods. The REMS was chosen to help integrate Kudlerââ¬â¢s point of sale system with the accounting modules including, general ledger, accounts payable, bank reconciliation, asset management and accounting, and security. Strengths and Weaknesses Kudlerââ¬â¢s currently runs using a point of sale system, which reports all sales in detail sending information to the general ledger, electronic payment clearing house, and purchasing function. Each sale is transmitted into the general ledger automatically recording debits and credits, calculating the cost of goods sold, calculating FIFO inventory levels, and net profit. The POS system sends automatic transmission for credit sales to the financial institution. With each sale the POS system also adjusts inventory on hand, records discounted purchases, and tracks ordering. Having these systems integrated eliminates potential posting errors. The Entrepreneur (2014) website states that a POS system should allow a business to analyze sales data, determine how each item sells, adjust for purchasing levels, maintain sales history for future purchases, improvement of pricing accuracy by use of barcodes scanners and credit card authorizations. Currently the stores are connected through a T3 line. According to ââ¬Å"Data-Connectâ⬠(2014), ââ¬Å"A T3 line is an ultra high-speed connection capable of transmitting data at rates up to 45 Mbps. A T3 line is equal to approximately 672 regular voice-grade telephone lines, which is fast enough to transmit full-motion, real-time video, and very large databases over a busy networkâ⬠(T3 ââ¬â comprised of 28 T1 lines). T3 communication lines are generally used for larger corporations, and can be expensive averaging around $3000 per month (Data-Connect, 2014). Having this system helps to ensure all three stores remain connected and gives the able to communicate effectively. The disadvantage of a T3 line is that it is hardware based and could crash. If a business does not have proper back up files and storage, information could be lost. A weakness within Kudler Fine Foods is with manual entry in the general ledger module and on cash purchases within the accounts payable module. When dealing with local grown produce, some growers insist on cash payments, which lead to manually entering the information into the accounts payable system. This leaves room for error from incorrect entry. This is also true for manual entry within the general ledger. Kudler Fine Foods also lacks a module for asset management and accounting. The company currently uses a spreadsheet software that is not integrated with the current REMS. This could lead to errors in correctly reporting financial information, as well as leading to additional manual entries. Opportunities Integration of all systems and procedures would greatly increase the accuracy of Kudler Fine Foods accounting system. It would be in the best interest of Kathy to contact Smith Consulting to review the current REMS, and decide what is needed to integrate the asset management and accounting module. Integrating this module will eliminate the spreadsheet software that is currently used. It would also be needed to explain the cash payment vendors with Smith Consulting to determine if the current REMS could handle such transactions, which would further eliminate manual entry. Another opportunity would be to search other hardware to connect the three stores that would be cheaper for the company. Currently the T3 line is designed for large corporations. Some suggestions would be to research a cloud storage for businesses. Cloud storage offers the same features as the T3 line but offers backup assistance. Cloud storage is also cheaper, cutting down on the business expenses (Dropbox, n. d. ). Cloud storage is good for smaller companies, with less expense, and will grow with the companyââ¬â¢s needs. Threats Kudler Fine Foods currently does not have a policy for security. The companyââ¬â¢s REMS offer security features such as passwords, dollar limits, and limited access, without a security police or audits the business is at threat of embezzlement, hacking, and unforeseen errors. Kudlerââ¬â¢s currently does not have an IT department to fall back on when there are issues with the software or hardware within the business. Without having an IT department the business could encounter computer or network related issues that would not be handled timely causing disruption of business. Without an IT department Kudlerââ¬â¢s must rely on outside consulting to help repair any issues that would arise. Incorporating IT within the company would eliminate costly and time consuming repairs. Conclusion Although there is some potential for development within Kudler Fine Foods, for the most part the company is on the right track. Integrating all systems and policies would eliminate manual entries. Kathy Kudler should contact Smith Consulting to determine how the REMS system can be upgraded to benefit the companyââ¬â¢s needs. Also looking into different storage systems that are less costly and able to grow with the business could increase profitability. Lastly the threats within the business need to be addressed to ensure that the company does not fall at risk to fraud or other potential financial issues. Addressing the aforementioned items would ensure better business practices and procedures for Kudler Fine Foods. How to cite Computer Information System Brief, Papers

Saving Grace Essays - Biology, Natural Environment, Habitat
Saving Grace Saving Grace There are some people who believe that the United States strictly forced endangered species laws seriously hamper our economy. I on the other hand must disagree. The endangered species laws were created for an important reason: to protect our earths biological diversity. Whenever humanity interferes with the ecosystem for the purpose of economic growth it tears it apart piece by piece. It is for reasons like these we must have such stringent laws, as in the Endangered Species Act. The fact of the matter is that a problem exists. Many policy-makers and forest industry representatives argue that the current forest and wildlife conditions constitute a forest health crisis. (Peters, Frost, s scientific research team stated that destruction of habitats, and species extinction are two of the four most critical global environmental issues. (Biodiversity, 1999). As can be seen, companies who destroy the ecosystem for economic gain are creating irreversible problems that future laws cannot correct. To prevent further problems from occurring we must maintain all biodiversity laws. The basis of the laws are to protect all life, including all human life; and are crucial for present and future generations. (Biodiversity, 1999). The federal government has taken charge of this situation, most notably through its endangered species protection efforts. (Biodiversity, 1999). This has become a controversial, but necessary step in protection our ecosystem and all of the valuable resources it has to offer. Understanding those environmental issues are subjects of disagreement arising from different perspectives and values; the controversy of economic gain verse ecological conservation is not easily settled. I support wildlife preservation to prevent extinction. I believe without these laws that we as humans will suffer greatly, because we would be unable to reap the benefits of the ecosystem. Furthermore I agree with the congressional findings thatvarious species of fish, wildlife, and plants have been rendered extinct as a consequence of economic growth and development untempered by adequate concern and conservation.(OLaughlin, 1998). In conclusion the benefit to humanity of preserving the environment ensuring that biodiversity is monitored and cannot be destroyed. Humans are a part of the natural world and as such we must strive to connect with it. The continued loss of natural habitat disconnects us from this world and decreases out awareness of nature. Humans are the guardians of this world and all of its natural beauty; therefore, we must protect it at all costs. Environmental Issues

Since its creation in 1903, Buick has been a long Essays - Transport
Since its creation in 1903, Buick has been a long Essays - Transport Since its creation in 1903, Buick has been a long standing giant in the automotive industry. Overcoming bankruptcy just one year after its creation, Buick quickly became " the N umber one producer of automobiles in 1908 , surpassing the combined production of Ford and Cadillac, its closest competitors (Gustin,1993) . " Buick is known for many things; such as the creation of the overhead valve engine or its widely known smooth engines, but Buick is also known to have a reputation for wide bodied boat like vehicles that only elderly people drive. Over the years the reputation of Buick has stayed the same, its an old people car, the "Grandpa of Automobiles (Gustin, 1993) ". But in more recent times, they have changed their whole marketing strategy and have caught the attention of the younger generations with advancements in technology and release newer models with turbocharged engines. These changes however did not change how Buick handles its busine ss, they have attracted younger consumers, but have stayed true to their core market. To attract a younger generation of consumers, Buick had to test out the market in some of the following segments: market value, age on consumers, advertising, popularity, and technological necessities. They had to evaluate exactly how to go about these categories, without jeopardizing their reputation and could not risk losing out on the younger consumer market. Primarily an elderly vehicle, they had to embrace the idea of changing up their entire marketing platform. The company had to remove the image of only elder drivers driving Buicks. The advancements in the physical look of the vehicle also helped with the changing of consumer minds. Buick also launched a series of commercials where the slogan was "Is that a Buick" coming out of the mouths of many young people but also older people, showing that they have revamped their lineup and its indistinguishable as just an old person car. Changing the internals of the vehicle, with newer technologies has also changed the market value for Buick, Including the newest advancements that every company is going for: Apple Car Play and Wireless QI Charging. These new features, and physical changes were only some of the steps to revamp the marketing of the company. Revamping the marketing platform came with the collaboration of Zach King," a trick cinematographer who works in a medium called Vine (Bond,2014) ". King used his fame and notoriety on the social media app to advertise for Buick, and quickly gained them more viewers and followers on social media platforms. King was able to reach the younger generations of consumers, using cinematic enhancements to make the vehicle more likeable. " The average age of the of a Buick buyer was 60.3, the highest of all mainstream makes, and second only to Lincoln, which IHS classifies as a luxury brand. (Bond,2014) " This is a statistic that Buick wanted to change. They researched the market and did surveys on what consumers would like to see in their product. "We're attacking head-on the false familiarity of Buick being an old person's brand . (Colias,2014) " That is the new marketing plan created by Buick-GMC Chief Duncan Aldred. Buick is part of the General Motors family including GMC, Chevrolet, and Cadillac. Since its revamp and relaunch the Buicks sales went up twelve percent from its previous position, while Cadillac dropped to negative two percent in sales. Further on since the revamp, in the second quarter of the following sales year, Buick had an unprecedented number of new customers. " Most Buick newcomers came from Chevrolet at seventeen percent, followed by GMC nine percent, Ford five percent, Toyota four percent and Honda and Cadillac with three percent each. (Colias,2014) " These numbers reflect how well Buick has done with their marketing and research. The numbers that stick out most are the Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac, owned by the same parent company, but Buick has now taken over as the preferred child in the family. Some may ask why Buick did a complete switch up all at once instead of over a few year time span. The answer may not be as simple as we would like to think, but in the opinion of

Sample Classroom Rules for Teachers
Sample Classroom Rules for Teachers When designing your classroom rules, keep in mind that your rules must be clear, comprehensive, and enforceable. And then comes the most important part... you must be consistent in enforcing them all the time, with every student, using predictable and delineated consequences. Some teachers suggest writing the class rules with your students, using their input to create buy-in and cooperation. Consider the benefits of strong, teacher-determined rules that are not viewed as negotiable by the people who must follow them. Weigh the pros and cons before deciding which method to employ. State your rules in the positive (no donts) and expect the best from your students. They will rise to the high expectations you set starting from the first minute of the first day of the school year. 5 Simple Classroom Rules Here are the five classroom rules that are simple, comprehensive, positive, and clear. Be respectful to all.Come to class prepared.Do your best.Have a winning attitude.Have fun and learn! Of course, there are many variations of classroom rules that you can follow, but these five rules have been a staple in my classroom and they work. When looking at these rules, students know that they must respect each and every person in the classroom, including me. They also know that it is essential to come to class prepared and ready to work and do their best. In addition to that, students must enter the classroom with a winning attitude, not a pessimistic one. And finally, students know that learning should be fun, so they need to come to school every day ready to learn and have some fun. Variations of the Rules Some teachers like to be more specific in their rules, such as hands must be kept to yourself at all times. Bestselling author and Teacher of the Year Ron Clark (The Essential 55 and The Excellent 11) actually recommends having 55 essential rules for the classroom. While that may seem like a lot of rules to follow, you can always look through them and choose the rules that suite your classroom and your needs.Ã The most important thing is to spend time before the school year starts determining which rules fit your voice, personality, and objectives. Think about what you want your students to do and keep in mind that your rules must suite a large group of students, not just a few individuals. Try and keep your rules down to a limit between 3-5 rules. The simpler the rules, the easier it is for students to remember them and to follow them. Edited By: Janelle Cox
